I Moved! Life Update & Adjusting to a New Schedule

Life update

I MOVED!! I can’t believe that I’m actually writing these words. For the past year and a half, I’ve been living at home due to COVID-19. Now, I’m moving out and have a major life update for you all!

I Moved!

As you can tell by the title of this post, I moved! I’m originally from New Jersey, which is where I’ve been living for the past year and a half. I go to school at Drexel University and just graduated in June with my BS in nutrition, but still have one more year to get my Master’s in nutrition & dietetics.

Starting today, I am beginning a position as a Resident Assistant (RA) on campus where I will be living in Greek life housing. Pretty much, I have the position to make sure that everyone is safe and happy in my residence hall. You all know what an RA is!

When I tell you that I manifested this, I’m serious. Last year before COVID, I made it to the final round of becoming an RA. I had a dream of becoming an RA because I love being in a leadership position and knew that it was for me. I would literally think about it all the time and physically pictured myself as an RA (is that weird??). COVID pretty much turned all those plans around and caused me (and many others) to abruptly move home.

Since all of my classes have been online for the past year and I live relatively close to Drexel, I decided to live at home. None of us knew that a few months would turn into over a year…but here we are!

I went through the whole RA selection process this year and was given the opportunity to be a graduate RA. Even though the timeline didn’t happen exactly as I anticipated, it finally happened!

Plans for the Year

So now for a little life update. I’m going to be an RA on campus while completing my dietetic internship (DI) and Master’s courses so that I can graduate and be done by June 2022. I already know that it’s going to be here before I know it, but we won’t think about that quite yet.

I’m starting my clinical rotations of my DI in a few weeks, where I’ll be in a hospital 3 days/week, then in class all day for one day a week. It’s going to be a lot, but I’ve never been so excited to be in school.

I’m planning on babysitting on the weekends to make a little extra money, because if you’re in college, you can relate! I also plan on continuing to write blogs, create recipes, and share everything with all of you! This community means the world to me, and I wouldn’t give it up for anything. Not sure how I’m going to manage it all yet, but we’ll figure it out.

Adjusting to a New Schedule

Adjusting to a new schedule is never easy. My life for the past year and a half has been based at home where I have access to a car, family, and a great kitchen for creating recipes.

Now, I’ll be living in a residence hall, which I’m so thankful for, but I know that it’s going to be different. I’m nervous for how I’m going to create recipes or even have time to do so. I’ve talked about fearing the future and learning to slow down in a previous blog, which you can check out, here.

Any new life update brings me anxiety, which is normal. I fear how I’m going to manage it all, but it always ends up working out. The best thing I’ve learned is to honestly not plan too much. As cheesy as it sounds, everything happens for a reason and works out how it’s supposed to.

I know that I’ll be busier than I’m used to and will have to adjust my schedule to accommodate others as part of my job. Even though I may not love waking up at 6:00 AM to spend 8 hours in a hospital, it’s temporary. It’s one step closer to my dream job of becoming a registered dietitian.

Some advice for adjusting to a new schedule…give yourself time and grace. New schedules and life events are scary and stressful. There’s no avoiding that. What we can avoid is expecting everything to go perfectly right away. Know that adjustment takes time, and you will eventually find your groove.

If you’re adjusting to a new lifestyle or moving out, I’m so excited for you! This is a crazy time in our lives, but also one that we’re going to look back on and cherish forever. Don’t let hustle culture remove you from the people around you and making memories with them!

xoxo
