Have you ever been by yourself and craved some banana bread? I know that we’ve all been there before… Now you can enjoy banana bread all to yourself with this Banana Bread Mug Cake! This single-serve recipe is gluten-free, dairy-free, and ready in under 5 minutes. Are you dying to try this yet?!
My favorite thing about mug cakes are how quick they’re ready, and how they satisfy a cake craving for one. Since I live alone, I love utilizing these recipes so that I don’t have any food waste. All you need is yourself and a microwave to have this banana bread in no time!
What Ingredients Do I Need?
In order to make this banana bread mug cake, you’re going to need the following ingredients:
- Banana
- Egg
- Maple syrup
- Olive oil
- Almond flour
- Coconut flour
- Cinnamon
- Baking powder
- Dark chocolate chips
Making the Mug Cake
This recipe couldn’t be any easier to make! All you need are the ingredients listed above and a microwave-safe bowl or mug.
Start by mashing the banana in your mug until smooth. The riper the banana, the better for this recipe. It will make the mug cake sweeter and is a lot easier to mash! Once the banana is mashed, add in the egg, maple syrup, and olive oil. Mix until all the wet ingredients are evenly combined.
Add the almond flour, coconut flour, cinnamon, and baking powder into the bowl with the wet ingredients. Mix until a smooth batter forms. At this point, you can either transfer the batter to a separate bowl to microwave it, or keep it in the same one. I like to transfer it so that the sides are clean.
Sprinkle some dark chocolate chips over the top of the banana bread, and you’re ready to microwave! Cooking times will vary depending on your microwave, but start out with 1 minute and 30 seconds. The cake will set a bit after it’s taken out, so be careful not to overcook it. Add your favorite toppings and enjoy!
Topping Options
Now this is the fun part. Banana bread is great on its own, but it’s all in the toppings.
I’ve already added dark chocolate chips to this mug cake, but there are so many more options you can go with. Here are some of my personal favorites:
- Cinnamon
- Maple syrup
- Peanut butter (or any nut butter)
- Fresh berries
- Caramelized bananas
- Crushed nuts
- Whipped cream
- Ice cream
