Ingredient Benefits

Avocados– Did you know that avocados are actually fruit?! Besides avocado toast, avocados are great for anything cream-based because of their texture. They’re loaded with heart-healthy fats that keep you satiated and can lower cholesterol. Avocados also contain fiber, which is great for digestion and satiety.

Maple syrup– This is one of my favorite all-natural sweeteners. Maple syrup is a great source of antioxidants, which prevent and fight off cell damage in the body. When you’re looking for maple syrup, try and go for the 100% or grade A maple syrup for the most health benefits.

Cacao powder– I’m a huge fan of cacao powder and put it in almost everything. Cacao powder is pretty much a less-refined version of cocoa powder. It’s higher in antioxidants, as well as other minerals such as iron, potassium, and magnesium. But no worries, if you don’t have cacao powder you can definitely sub it for cocoa powder.

How to Make the Mousse

I like to use my Magic Bullet to make this chocolate mousse, but you can use any food processor or blender you have. You can probably get away with just mashing the avocado, it just won’t be as creamy.

The key to this chocolate mousse is using ripe avocados. You want to make sure that your avocados are super soft. Don’t worry if they’re a little brown or bruised, we’re gonna add chocolate anyway!

Slice your avocados and remove the pits. Add them to your blender or food processor along with the maple syrup, cacao powder, and vanilla extract. Blend until totally smooth and creamy.

If the mixture is too thick, you can add a splash of almond milk, or if it’s too thin you can add more cacao powder. You may want to taste it as you go and adjust it to how sweet you like things. I’ve found that this combination works perfectly.

How to Store the Mousse

Since this chocolate mousse is made from avocados, you’re going to want to keep it in the refrigerator. It will stay good refrigerated in an airtight container for 4-5 days.
