How to Cut Sweet Potatoes

I’ve always been intimidated by sweet potato fries because I never know the right way to cut them. I can’t be alone on this one…right?

Don’t worry, I’ve found a hack that will get you the perfect sweet potato fries that is hassle-free.

After you wash and dry your sweet potatoes, grab a cutting board and a sharp knife (this is key). Slice a thin piece of the sweet potato off of one of the long sides, not the end of the potato.

Roll the sweet potato on the now flat side so that it is stable while you cut it. From there, slice the sweet potato into thin “toasts.”

Depending on how long the toast slices are, you may want to cut them in half so the fries aren’t super long. Now you can slice the toasts into fry shapes. The thinner the fries, the crispier they will get.

Cooking the Sweet Potatoes

Now that you’ve got all of your sweet potatoes cut into fry shapes, you’re ready to cook them! Throw all of the sweet potato fries into a large bowl and add the olive oil, cinnamon, and salt. Mix until all of the fries are evenly coated.

On a parchment-lined baking sheet, add your sweet potato fries. The key to crispy fries is to make sure they are spread out and not touching each other. If you over crowd the pan, the fries will steam instead of getting crispy. You may need to use two pans.

Once you have all of your fries evenly spread, it’s time to bake. You’re going to bake the fries in a 425-degree oven for 20 minutes, take them out to flip, then bake them for another 20 minutes.

Ways to Eat Sweet Potato Fries

Since these fries are on the sweeter side, I like to eat them in sweet dishes. They are delicious on their own, but here are some more ways to eat them:

  • Dipped in greek yogurt
  • Drizzled with peanut butter
  • In yogurt bowls
  • In salads
  • Straight out of the fridge!

How to Store Leftovers

If you have leftover fries, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Make sure you let them cool completely before storing. The greek yogurt dip will also stay good in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
